The Wellness Coalition will host a conference designed to improve the treatment of chronic diseases in the River Region and the state. Many people with chronic diseases do not follow through with medical and non-medical treatment prescribed to them for a variety of reasons. This conference will explore those factors, the challenges they create, and ways for service providers to address them.
The conference will take place Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 8:30am-4:30pm in room 230 of the Taylor Center at Auburn University Montgomery. Attendees and vendors can register by going to www.thewellnesscoalition.org/conferences or by calling The Wellness Coalition at 334-293-6502.
“This event is expected to draw health care providers and social service workers from throughout the state and will enhance the attendees’ ability to help their clients and patients manage their treatment regimens,” said Cynthia Bisbee, PhD, executive director of The Wellness Coalition. “Chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease are prevalent in Alabama and treatment adherence is an important issue.”
Conference attendees may request Continuing Education Credits and can expect to leave this event equipped to apply practical ideas to improve patient adherence to chronic disease treatment programs. Attendees will also be able to interact with onsite vendors to learn more about methods and best practices in the healthcare industry.
“Nurses, social workers, counselors, pharmacists, case managers, community health workers, home health aides, agency supervisors and managers, and anyone else interested in enhancing their level of service to consumers should be at this conference,” said Bisbee.
