The Wellness Coalition has made a direct impact on the health of local residents through our many programs. “A Tour of Wellness” brought those programs together in the form of a community-wide health fair. The health fair was held in Montgomery, Tuskegee, and Hayneville on Saturdays in May and June to ensure as many River Region residents had access to the services offered.
These events were free for vendors, exhibitors, and attendees. Attendees were able to take advantage of access to COVID-19 vaccinations and a host of health and wellness resources from The Wellness Coalition and other organizations and nonprofits. In fact, many organizations partnered with us by attending the events, providing additional services, offering giveaway items, providing food for attendees, and more.
“We couldn’t have made these events as successful as they were without the support of these agencies and the communities in which we held the health fairs,” said Na’Sha DeRamus, REACH COVID/Flu program coordinator for The Wellness Coalition. “Reaching these communities can help reduce uncertainty and debunk myths about the COVID-19 vaccines and flu vaccine, all while providing a wide range of services to those who need them most.”
“A Tour of Wellness” was a beneficial health and education event for our community. The Wellness Coalition is planning on making it an annual event in all three counties.
Beyond the Tour
During the pandemic, The Wellness Coalition has been helping communities stay safe by partnering with pharmacies and holding vaccination clinics and outreach events. At these events, attendees are exposed to educational materials, including posters, brochures, and surveys, to help us better understand the attitudes and beliefs of those to whom we provide services.
The Wellness Coalition has also attended food pantry drives to hand out bags filled with brochures, hand sanitizers, masks, and tissues. We also work with churches, community-based organizations, and other agencies to arrange for venues for temporary or mobile vaccination clinics.
